Mount Grill

my self & 2 other old college mates visited MG(after almost 15years) on 12th Mar'15 around 9pm purely to have a go at the signature item hoppers in basket , after having a few beers when it came to ordering food we were told no hoppers to our amazement ! no alert nothing from the staff .. when we ask as to what is available the answer was anything on the menu contradicting that info .. anyway we were finally forced to hv veg fried rice wzout any side dish ..we realized we were beating a dead horse wasting our time .. what i need to highlight here is the attitude of the so called Captain Ebert whom we felt not having any kind of sense running a customer oriented biz , not even a simple sorry from him for spoiling our eve .. further .. this man made a bad comment to some guys seated next to our table on a lady who were there alone & left having food .. we were really shocked him talking like that ..whatever she is , he should hv some decency not to talk like that after all she was a customer to him .. this wl give a bad impression & spoil the image of this iconic place ..

in summary : Ebert need to be given a good training specially to cater to to customer satisfaction if need old customers to patronize this place ..

On 14 February 2015, my family and I decided to go for Dinner to Mount Grill Restaurant Mt. Lavinia. We arrived at the Restaurant around 08:30p.m. and sat ourselves down at a table for four people, where there was another table pulled close to the table where we were sitting and it already had three people seated. We had not even sat ourselves down, we were told to get up and move to the table behind the table where we were seated. Without making a fuss we did so. Until 9p.m. nobody bothered to take our order and it was very frustrating. We noticed that the Manager not only did his duty as Manager in charge, he was also clearing tables, taking down orders, doing the job of the cashier and bringing the folder with the bills to the guests who had already finished their meal. The Manager came up to our table around 9p.m. to take our order. As my father and husband wanted to order drinks and the bites for accompaniment and my mother and I wanted to order soft drinks, the order for same was given first and we told the Manager that we will order Dinner later once we enjoyed our drinks. However, we were told to order Dinner as well, as it was a very busy day and orders will be taken according to the way guests placed their orders. Maybe the Restaurant was full, but other Restaurants do not make remarks of this nature to a customer. Our drinks were sent to us twenty minutes later and along with the drinks our dinner was also sent which meant we were basically rushed through our meal. It was very disappointing as we wanted to spend a quiet family evening together. However, the food was very tasty and the calypso band which was playing at the Restaurant that night sang in perfect harmony. However, when it was time to order Dessert, we were told by the Manager who by now was sweating profusely and looking absolutely exhausted, that there was only ice cream and a food platter and other desserts were not made that evening. Is this what you call service? I did see a rat running on the rafters of the restaurant as well. We have been to many Restaurants and this is not the first time we have had a meal at Mount Grill. But it was the first time after the new management took over. In the past this Restaurant was a very well known Restaurant in Mt. Lavinia very elite and with an extraordinary standard. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone as it is a nightmare even though the food was excellent.
